To briefly summarize some key provisions:
  • An employee’s right to accrue paid sick leave is effective July 1;
  • Employers must post a sick leave rights poster and provide individualized notice to all employees of this new right;
  • Applies to virtually all employees who work in California at least thirty days per year;
  • Employees will earn at least one hour of paid sick leave for every thirty hours worked, but that amount may be capped by written policy at forty-eight hours (six days);
  • Employees are entitled to use accrued paid sick days beginning after the 90th day of employment;
  • Depending on the way your company’s sick leave policy is structured, accrued paid sick leave carries over to the following year;
  • Employers can limit the amount of sick leave employees can take in one year to twenty-four hours (three days).
